LAEF Leadership MESSAGE

23-24 AR LAEF leadership photo low res.png

To our supporters, volunteers, and community members,

Thank you for your incredible dedication to our students and schools and your commitment to the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF). We strive to support an excellent education in many ways, and we could not do it without YOU—our wonderful community, volunteers, and generous donors.

For over 42 years, LAEF has raised money each school year to sustain and enrich the Los Altos School District’s (LASD) excellent educational program beyond what public funding provides. After all is said and done, the 2023-24 school year proved to be one of great accomplishments during economically uncertain times, and this past year, we’ve been able to reestablish and recreate a new normal in today’s changed landscape.

We started the school year by endorsing the local parcel tax, Measure A, which passed with nearly 75% of the vote, to continue providing essential funding for our excellent neighborhood schools. Students and families enjoyed the terrific winter and spring music concerts, STEM fairs, and art shows, and we closed the year strong by celebrating together in May when the LASD Computer Science program won the Glenn W. Hoffmann Exemplary Program award from the Santa Clara County Board of Education.
This year’s giving metrics are impressive - we saw an increase in new families joining the LAEF donor community, strong support from workplace giving and corporate matching, and additional members joining the Leadership Circle. All of this, combined with contributions from donor-advised funds and appreciated stock, allowed for an impressive grant of over $2.6 million again this year! Collectively, your donations to LAEF-funded teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and Arts, benefitting 3,370 TK-8 students in nine LASD schools.

Your 2023-2024 donations have had a direct impact throughout this school year and hopefully, students’ ongoing experiences with essential programs such as Music, Art, PE, Library, and Computer Science are a reminder of why your donation matters. The recognition of all nine of our schools as California Distinguished Schools and three as National Blue Ribbon Schools is only possible because of your support. LASD is consistently ranked among the top one percent of the over 1000 school districts in all of California, demonstrating excellence in math, science, language, and history; this is a fact we can all be proud of in this changed landscape.
On behalf of the LAEF staff members, board members, and countless community volunteers, we appreciate every donation at every level. We value you as partners in ensuring all LASD students receive an exceptional education, preparing them to achieve their highest potential.

With gratitude,
Emily Harris and Jensen Barna,
Co-Presidents 2023-2024
Heather Macdonald, LAEF Executive Director
