LAEF Leadership MESSAGE

steve and heather lr.jpg

To our volunteers and supporters,

It was wonderful to have LASD students, teachers, staff and administrators on campus for the entire 2021-22 school year. Just three years ago, this would have been taken for granted, but the ups and downs of the COVID pandemic made it a cause for celebration.

Along with the full-time return to in-person school came many events and programs led by LAEF-funded teachers that help make our kids’ educational experience so excellent. Students, parents and staff enthusiastically participated in STEM labs, computer science projects, art shows, music concerts, PE classes, generous library hours, and the beloved Junior Olympics.

On behalf of the LAEF board and staff, we are pleased to share the results of our collective efforts for the 2021-22 school year. We want to thank our incredible group of supporters – parents, grandparents, LASD alumni, community members and local businesses – for investing in our outstanding schools by supporting LAEF. Your donations of $2.9 million enabled LAEF to fund LASD teachers and staff at all seven elementary and two junior high schools. LAEF’s grant to LASD enhanced learning opportunities for all TK – 8th grade students in STEM, Wellness, Literacy and Arts. We are grateful for your generosity.

Last spring, we were fortunate to hear from seven talented Los Altos and Mountain View High School seniors who attended LASD elementary and junior high schools in their earlier years. We were so inspired by their poise as they explained to a crowded room of adults how specific teachers and programs in LASD sparked their passions and shaped what they want to pursue in college and beyond. The positive impact of the well-rounded LASD education was abundantly clear.

As we embark upon the 2022-23 school year and celebrate our 40th anniversary, LAEF remains committed to supporting LASD in sustaining and enriching the educational experience that all children in LASD receive. We look forward to partnering with you and appreciate your support.

With gratitude,

Steve Apfelberg, 2021-22 LAEF Board President, LASD Parent

Heather Macdonald, LAEF Executive Director
