LAEF Leadership MESSAGE
To our volunteers and supporters,
In the past 1½ years, we all struggled to come up with words other than “unique” and “challenge” and “unprecedented” to describe the world in which we were living.
While COVID upended our lives and our kids’ educations, the LAEF board and staff feel both fortunate and proud to be partnered with a school district that successfully rose to meet those unique challenges during an unprecedented year.
Even in a global pandemic, LAEF, LASD, and our community came together to provide a solid, well-rounded, equitable education for all our students. Despite last year’s difficult environment for our students, teachers, and parents, it was great to see all the learning that did go on during such a highly nontraditional year. Hardworking and flexible educators across our 10 LASD elementary, junior high, and virtual schools created meaningful learning opportunities in all the areas LAEF traditionally funds: STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and Arts.
We know, over 18 months into the pandemic, that flexibility and persistence remain critical. We applaud LASD’s commitment to a safe, in-person learning experience for our students during the coming school year, and fervently hope that the 2021-22 school year is one filled with great face-to-face (or mask-to-mask!) learning.
Thank you to our community for your strong support. Your kind words of thanks during a fundraising call or masked encounter on the street were inspiring. Your donations of $2.72M enabled LAEF to fund LASD teachers and staff, benefiting all 3500 students. In this annual report, we highlight how your generosity helped LASD deliver critical programs, both in-person and remotely, as local and national conditions shifted.
While times remain uncertain, the volunteer LAEF board, including representatives from every LASD school, remains committed to preserving continuity in the excellent educational opportunities that our LASD families have come to expect and appreciate. Your support for LAEF remains vital to funding the teachers and staff who provide instruction and services to LASD students. We look forward to partnering with you again and appreciate your support.

With gratitude,
