LAEF Funded Programs

LAEF’s annual grant helped the Los Altos School District deliver a well-rounded learning experience for all TK-8 students by funding teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and Arts in elementary school and junior high. Funding priorities for the annual grant were based on feedback from the LAEF parent survey and through strategic discussions with LASD. During the last 3 months of the school year, LASD teachers responded to the challenge brought on by the pandemic by pivoting to online instruction and engaging our students in new ways.

STEM Programs

STEM

STEM experiences deepened each child’s hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Computer Science

Each child learned computer science basics and expressed their creativity through code.

"Our second grader is excited about coding, which is great at such a young age."

Wellness Programs

Physical Education

Certified PE instructors helped develop each child’s motor skills and understanding of health and fitness.

"Really great for helping my child’s overall health, fitness, coordination, behavior, team skills and confidence!"

Mental Health

Mental health counselors were available to support students.

"Having the CHAC counselors available is wonderful. Our family went through a rough patch recently and having a non-family member to talk to was very helpful for my daughter. "

Literacy Programs

Library

Librarians assisted each child in discovery and research and provided resources and guidance.

"Our librarian is fantastic! She knows all the kids and what types of books they would be interested in reading."

Literacy

Literacy aides assisted classroom teachers to provide 1st and 2nd graders with additional reading support.

"My son loves his second grade literacy aid. She is fantastic."

Arts Programs

Art

Trained art docents nurtured each child’s creativity through artistic expression and appreciation of art.

"Both my kids have so much fun with these lessons! We love that they get a chance to use clay in particular."

Music

Instrumental and vocal music studies improved each child’s language development and fostered love of music.

"My son has loved learning how to play the clarinet, definitely one class that he looks forward to every week, not to mention the excitement around concerts."

Electives

With a wide range of choices, each junior high student could personalize his/her learning.
